#Summer is a nightmare for #feet in general. I have bad #memories of running #barefoot on #hot bitumen when I was #young and the skin of my feet peeling off. #Gross and #Ouch! But enough about me!
Summer is a #time when we forget that our #furkids #paws are #sensitive and on #hot surfaces a lot. This #week I have paid close #attention to the #dogs being #walked in my #neighborhood of #WestEnd #Brisbane in preparation for this #blog post. This is what I found:
*dogs being walked in the middle of the day on bitumen;
*dogs being walked in the afternoon on footpaths that have still not cooled down; and
* dogs left #sitting outside #cafes and #restaurants with the #sun blazing on them and the concrete they are sitting on
Of course it is amazing to see all these #furkids out and about however these were not one off sightings, I saw them multiple times and this #concerns me. We have been hitting mid 30 degrees everyday for weeks now so imagine the #heat in the concrete and roads that we are making our fur kids walk on. Too #hot!
Here are my #tips before taking your fur kid anywhere this summer:
* Are you hot? If yes, then your fur kid is too so make sure you take #water and provide #shade for them;
* Put the top of your hand on any surface you are going to walk your fur kid on. If you cannot hold it there for 5 seconds your fur kid should not be walking or sitting on it;
* Do not #walk your fur kid in the #middle of the day. It's #lovely that you want to include them in your #life but it is just too hot;
* #Walk your fur kid in the #early #morning or late #afternoon - you will both be #thankful!
* #Buy some #pawbalm and make a #habit of #massaging your fur kids paws when you get home. This is also great for helping them get used to #nail clipping (side hint)!
*#Check your fur kids #paws. They can't tell you if they are #burning so check them. If they are red, peeling, blistering or bleeding you need to get them #vet care.
barefoot in summer because the ground is HOT so keep this in mind for your fur kid.
